Wisconsin Teaching License Renewal

State Licensure Changes, per the DPI licensure page: https://dpi.wi.gov/tepdl/news

Educators who hold a Professional or Master Educator license that was supposed to expire on June 30, 2018, DO NOT NEED TO APPLY to renew their license with credits or a PDP.  The state budget has removed the expiration dates from these licenses.

The recently passed 2017 – 2019 Wisconsin state budget contains major changes to licensure rules. College/university credits will no longer be required for license renewal purposes for teachers, administrators and pupil service educators.

Experience earned prior to the passing of the budget in September 2017 can be applied towards the Lifetime license.  Initial Educators who have not completed the Advancement requirements will be issued a Provisional license.  In order for their work experience to count towards the Lifetime license it must meet the following requirements:

  • The experience must be in the category of their license (teacher, administrator or pupil services)
  • The experience must be earned within the five years immediately preceding the start date of the Lifetime license
  • The experience must be verified as successful by the employing Wisconsin public school district

Note: any educators who completed their preparation program in another state and have statutory stipulations on their license must complete the statutory stipulation requirements before they may receive a Lifetime license.
