What are the requirements for your distance learning courses?

All of our courses are formatted in a similar manner. Feel free to call or email for more specific requirements or questions:

  1. Read the course text.
Each course has its own course text(s) that contains a myriad of practical strategies and methods for the classroom teacher. Learner's Edge. uses only the most popular and applicable texts in the field.
  2. Respond to the questions on the accompanying study guide.
Each course has one study guide with 12-15 questions. The questions are designed to help you synthesize what you have been learning in the course text and apply that to your classroom. These questions are not designed to be "essay questions" or "papers."
  3. Complete the application requirements.
Each course requires that you create something applicable to your teaching situation. This typically involves creating a series of short lessons using the strategies, or designing activities to try with your students.

As you can see, course requirements are all designed to be relevant and useful to teachers in their classrooms. Next to each course description on our web page, we have included several comments from teachers who have taken that particular course. Please take a moment to read what teachers like you have to say about Learner's Edge courses!

Will your courses work for teachers in Wisconsin?

Yes. DPI approval is no longer required for courses taken through accredited out-of-state institutions.  On-site, online, independent study, or correspondence courses are acceptable as long as they are related to your licensure area or professional competence.  If you would like more information on this, please visit www.dpi.state.wi.us/tepdl/tm-license.html

If you are considering taking a course through Learner's Edge and one of our accredited academic partners, we always recommend that you follow any school/district pre-approval policies that may be in place.

What is the difference between a Learner's Edge distance learning course and an ASCD online course?

Learner's Edge distance learning courses are text based and have no online or video viewing requirements (with the exception of courses 648, 681 & 846).  These are the courses that we have built our reputation on.

In an effort to give our customers more choice in when, where and how they learn, we have partnered with the well known, and highly regarded Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) to make available for credit, over 50 ASCD online courses.

Be assured, no matter which learning model you choose, you will find our offerings to be leading edge, thought provoking, and versatile.

Can I audit a course? What are the audit requirements?

If you only need clock hours for professional development, and do not need full graduate credit and a university transcript, auditing a course may be a good option for you.

Our onsite and text-based distance learning courses can be audited.  The course fee is lower for an audited course, since you won't receive a university transcript.  Rather, you'd receive a letter of completion on Learner's Edge letterhead documenting successful completion of the course and indicating the credit value associated with the course.

Since you are accountable for the clock hours earned through an audit, the requirements/assignments when auditing a course are the same as the requirements/assignments when taking the course for graduate credit.
