Q. What are the requirements for your distance learning courses?

All of our courses are formatted in a similar manner.

  1. Read the course text.
Each course has its own course text(s) that contains a myriad of practical strategies and methods for the classroom teacher. Learner's Edge uses only the most popular and applicable texts in the field.
  2. Respond to the questions on the accompanying study guide.
Each course has one study guide with roughly 12-15 questions. The questions are designed to help you synthesize what you have been learning in the course text and apply that to your classroom. These questions are not designed to be "essay questions" or "papers."
  3. Complete the application requirements.
Each course requires that you create something applicable to your teaching situation. This typically involves creating a series of short lessons using the strategies, or designing activities to try with your students.

Course requirements are all designed to be relevant and useful to teachers in their classrooms. Next to many of the course descriptions on our web page, we have included comments from teachers who have taken that particular course. Please take a moment to read what teachers like you have to say about Learner's Edge courses!

Feel free to call or email for course-specific requirements.

Q. What is the difference between text-based and online courses?

Learner's Edge Signature Text-based Courses have no online or video viewing requirements (with the exception of courses 648, 681 & 846).  These are the courses that we have built our reputation on.

Also, through our partnership with the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) and Augustana College, we offer graduate credit for over 50 ASCD online courses.

Be assured, no matter which learning model you choose, you will find our courses to be thought provoking and flexible. Q. Learner's Edge is accredited by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools, what does this mean?

The Northwest Association of Accredited schools is one of the nation's six acknowledged accreditation agencies. Accreditation promotes continual school improvement leading to greater student achievement. In order to become an accredited institution, schools must met eight standards in the following areas: teaching and learning, support standards and school improvement. To maintain accredited status, schools must demonstrate they meet the Standards of Accreditation and continually work to improve student performance.  Ultimately, this assures you that Learner's Edge has a continued commitment to integrity, educational excellence and high academic standards.

With NAAS accreditation, Learner’s Edge now has the ability to offer clock hours for a variety of professional development activities and courses.  In fact, all of our courses can now be taken for various levels of clock hours, depending on your particular need.

If you are interested in taking our courses for graduate credit, you may choose among our 4 regionally accredited university/college partners for such credit.  Each of our partner universities is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the NCA (North Central Association) as well as NCATE or TEAC. Some school districts require that courses for relicensure or salary advancement be taken from a regionally accredited university; this is exactly what we offer you with our partnerships with North Dakota State University, Colorado State University-Pueblo, University of St. Thomas, and Augstana College.
